I love growing peas during the winter months, especially sugar snap peas.
I start planting the seeds from May up until September each year.
When the plants are young, I water them almost every day and as they get more mature I gradually reduce watering to every second to third day.
Also, in winter, I like to water the plants early morning instead of late afternoon.
They get about 6+ hours of sun each day.
They prefer to grow on a trellis and this makes it easier to harvest the pods.
I wait until the pods are nice and plump, then I know the peas inside the pods are big and juicy.
It is so rewarding picking handfuls of peas every week. They never reach a pot though, because we eat them as soon as they come off the plant. Super sweet and delicious.
I experimented with purple sugar snap peas.
They look so impressive with their purple pods… but the peas inside are still green and did not taste as sweet as the original green sugar snap peas.
